What carries his name at Les Invalides is the Charles de Gaulle Historial, an audiovisual museum space in the basement of the Army Museum. Why Colombey

Because he had written it down, long in advance, in terms that left no room for manoeuvre: a funeral without official ceremony, without music, without speeches, in his village cemetery, beside his daughter Anne. The Republic followed that text to the letter in 1970. It is an explicit refusal of the Panthéon and of any national mausoleum — including this one.
